Unwanted goats ...

Christmas was coming at me rapidly - things to do - friends to see - arrangements to be made because we were leaving our house to look after someone else`s over Christmas and New Year (that`s what we do in our `spare` time).
One of my emails from a charity site gave me an idea - my four grandchildren really have all they need and the youngest will be 17 in January - two of them are working, the third is at University and the youngest still at college.  Yes!!!  I would buy them each a goat which could be sent to a needy family in Africa or somewhere - providing a family with milk and meat (didn`t like the thought of meat too much as the picture of the goat did look cute).  In return for my donation each grandchild would receive a duly grateful card from a `recipient` - smiling happily in anticipation no doubt.
Christmas morning came - the phone rang - one family - the eldest.  Grandchildren `Hello Granny` etc etc etc.  No mention of the goat ... hmmmm.
Saw second son on Sunday - got all sorts of news from him and his wife about the working grandchildren - one of which has just bought his first house but - still no mention of the goat ..
Oh heck - I have a reputation for being a tad eccentric and I suppose eccentricity increases with age (did you know that your nose and your ears grow as you got older?  I examined my ears at some depth this morning in the mirror - how often do you look at your ears? - and yes, they are certainly larger than I remember.).  Anyway I guess I have goofed this year - do the Chinese have a Year of the Goat - cos you can bet 2012 isn`t it!
Next year it will be boring ole Christmas cheques ...
